My Data Scholar Story: Kingston

Kingston worked a hybrid internship schedule which allowed him some time in the office as well as the opportunity to complete internship tasks from home.

My name is Kingston, and I am a rising junior at Hoover High School in Hoover, Alabama. I was selected to participate in the competitive Alabama Data Scholars summer internship program made possible by QuantHub with support from Innovate Alabama and partnering employers statewide.

My internship host company was Tquila Automation where I spent 8 weeks learning about AI, automation, and data analytics while also hearing from speakers and building my skills as a future engineer.

My internship assignment at Tquila Automation was to create a recruitment chatbot for hiring managers of the company. We used Druid AI to create a chatbot that asks the recipient questions from a survey created by the HR team. We then used UiPath to process the responses of the subject and input them into a Google form.

Kingston worked alongside fellow Data Scholar intern Preston and Tquila Automation staff. Interns are pictured here with the company’s Co-Founder and CTO, Richard Denton.

Working with the staff at Tquila Automation has been a blast! I enjoyed working with automations and AI more than I expected because of the creative freedom—you get to create a chatbot to do anything you desire!

QuantHub’s Data Scholars program has allowed me to learn about different degrees offered at colleges within Alabama  related to these fields, and the skills I’ve developed have helped me narrow down which type of engineering I am interested in pursuing in college.

I’ve also realized just how useful AI and data literacy can be and how their applicability could benefit people working in many different fields. The growing uses of AI and data  will only make it more important for students to become familiar with skills like those I’ve learned as an intern.
