Her Background
I am entering my 24th year in the classroom and fourth at Bessemer Center for Technology. A lifelong learner myself, I finished an Ed.S. in Instructional Technology at the University of Montevallo last August and immediately began another degree in Higher Education Administration at the University of Alabama. I’ve even been able to use QuantHub personally to help with my statistics class!
How she uses QuantHub in her classroom
During 2023-2024 I used QuantHub with Exploring Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, and other IT courses. I mainly used it as a bell ringer with the goal of slowly working our way toward a certification. I gave the students a goal to complete one ‘set’ (five questions) each day. Throughout the nine-week grading period, they were able to earn a certification without the anxiety of a timed test.
Her goals for using QuantHub this school year
For 2024-2025 I plan to integrate QuantHub into the everyday lesson more. For instance, I want to integrate the lessons that deal with Microsoft Excel and charts into the Business Software Applications II course. We will be working on our Excel skills to prepare for the MOS Associate or Expert exam while at the same time earning certifications in data literacy.
Her experience presenting at the ALACTE Conference
The opportunity to speak at the ALACTE 2024 conference was an experience I will not soon forget. I loved getting to share my experience using QuantHub in my classes while reconnecting with teachers I’ve not seen in years and meeting new colleagues from around the state. I’m looking forward to sharing the QuantHub platform and data literacy with more of my friends and colleagues in the future.
