The kick-off meeting set the tone for what promises to be a transformative experience for the Data Scholars. It commenced with warm welcomes and opening remarks from key figures such as Josh Jones, QuantHub CEO, Shannon Allen, Program Director for HBCU Engagement at Innovate Alabama, and Anna Topping, Senior Manager of Operations & Impact at TechBirmingham. The agenda also included introductions of the scholars themselves, outlining the diverse backgrounds and aspirations they bring to the table.

A core component of the program involves engaging activities and defined deliverables that challenge scholars to apply their knowledge in practical settings. Central to their development is the guidance provided by business/industry partner mentors who offer valuable insights and support throughout their journey. Regular check-ins ensure that scholars stay on track and have the necessary resources to excel.

Weekly sessions are a cornerstone of the Data Scholars program, where participants delve into professional development modules and receive specialized industry presentations. These sessions feature distinguished speakers and institutions such as Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM), Troy University, and the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH), each offering unique perspectives on data analytics, AI research, and applications in various sectors including sports analytics and cybersecurity.

This week, the Data Scholars are eagerly anticipating their attendance at the Sloss Tech Conference in Birmingham, AL. This event promises to provide them with further exposure to cutting-edge technologies, industry trends, and networking opportunities that are crucial for their growth as future data professionals.
